LOOOOOOOOOVE IT!!!

I am reading "Twilight" now and I am loving it. I picked up Steve's suit from the dry cleaner and the girl that works there is always reading a book. I always check out what she is reading and sure enough it was the ever popular, "Twilight". I told her I was reading the same book and she said it was awesome and that this was like the 5th time she was reading it.
I love the book but I don't know if I could read it twice. I love reading and watching movies but after the first time it looses all its luster for me. I was just talking to Steve about this because he is reading Lord of the Rings (again) and I asked him how he could read that book again. He said he likes it because there are things he misses the first time. Steve likes to skim books and not a read every detail. So my question to you is do you skim when you read or do you savor every detail and get it all the first time, not liking to repeat stories or movies. Or am I the only weird one out there who does not like to read the same thing twice.

As one who has read the Harry Potter series about five times, I definately read over and over again- on some great books that is. I am a skimmer, first reading is major plot points and what happens. There is always something new every time you read it again.

There are only a few books I have read more than once. One is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn which is my favorite book. The other is Rebecca by Dahpnie du Maurier because it is my 2nd fav. And I don't understand how people can skim. That is how my dad reads. It takes me a long time to read because I suck in every detail and go back and re read lines.

Some books can only be read once- the plot is simplistic- not too many twists or surprises. Others- especially ones with SO MUCH happening like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Book of Mormon, etc you really do get something new the next time you read it. I read the Twilight series here because it was so hyped up in our ward. I have to say, I liked it but did not love it. It is near obsession for the girls down here. Knowing how much you love to read I'll have to get your take on it when you're done. I kinda feel because we read other things for our book club by more established and notable authors that the writing style is just okay for me. I know it's her first book, but it continues in the same style for the next two books not really improving much(unlike J.K. Rowling who got better with every book.)

i'm a reader. i don't like to skim...but, if the author gets a bit too wordy or boring, i'll skim sections.
oh, and i used to re-read all the time, but now i like to read it once and move on to more books...there is never enough time to read, so to re-read takes away from all the new adventures i could be going on.

I like to read slow enough to get a full image in my head about what is going on. If I can't picture what's happening, I'll go back and read the paragraph/sentence/chapter over again until it clicks. If I'm in a suspensful part, I skim because I'm so excited. Sometimes I skim too much, and have to backtrack. I'm like you, Kathy. I don't watch movies over again or re read books (unless it's been a LONG time and I forgot all of the details). With Harry Potter, if I'm pondering a certain detail, I'll find the exact chapter and read it over. That's my max.

I'm with you 100%. I don't like to watch movies more than once, and I don't like to read books more than once. I try to get every detail the first time that I read. Joel has stopped on movies on tv that we have seen before, and I usually have to find something else to do. I don't like knowing what is going to happen and when the stressful parts are coming.

I've heard that the Twilight books are really good. I might have to give them a try.

I am definitely a reader! I need to read every detail and depending on the book I might need to stop and think a little while I'm reading. Joe's a skimmer and I usually take twice as long to read something as him. I'm always afraid that if I skim, I'm going to miss some good detail or skip something important.

Also, I do not re-read or watch movies more than once. Movies are boring to me the second time around and I lose interest in books that I've already read before I make it past the first page.

I started the series three weeks ago and have read all three books twice already and started New Moon for the third time (I lent Twilight to a friend)

btw, I'm Leah Sharp (Ann is my onlilne personna)

Glad I found your blog!

I am a skimmer. I get the main plot of the story and little detail and then read it again.
